Finally finished ...

Today we finally finished repainting the pine single bed to go into the room we recently redid on the top floor (that was in June!).

We used some melamine treatment to cover the varnish which allowed us to paint straight onto it without any sanding or stripping.  After painting, I did a coat with some tinted varnish that I found in the workshop downstairs.  I am rather pleased with the result - it matches the existing furniture pretty well!

First snowfall this winter!

First snowfall this winter today!
Fortunately the snowline seems to be just about the house (we are at 650m altitude. Very lucky, since the wood for the winter was also delivered today!

A quiet (ish) Sunday

and time to go out for lunch!  Below are some photos of the newly renovated 'esplanade des oeufs' at Cauterets.

Peter found some fascinating photos taken by a guy who walked up to the old mines on the mountain behind Les Ruisseaux.  There are still a lot of old buildings and equipment up there, despite the fact that the mines have been closed since the 1970s.

Have a look at the photos on his blog here

Fruit salad jam!

An excess of fruit salad due to a mess up on the calendar (by yours truly) so I made some 'fruit salad' jam!

Then also whilst I had the things out I made some tea jelly that I had been wanting to try!
